Regavim, a colonial organization, incites demolition of a school south of Hebron

An extremist Israeli colonial organization has incited the halting of work and the demolition of a school in the Bedouin desert south of Hebron.

Members of the extremist colonial organization Regavim posted inflammatory leaflets on the walls of the Zuweidin Girls’ Secondary School in the Bedouin desert south of Hebron. The leaflets called on the Israeli government to halt work and demolish the school. They argued that keeping the school as part of the infrastructure would encourage Palestinians to build and remain in the area.

The school is located within the organizational master plan for the Zuweidin Bedouin community, and work has been underway to establish and build it for more than four years.

The extremist organization Regavim was established in 2006, and the extremist Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is considered one of its most prominent founders. Regavim is a far-right organization that seeks to implement demolition orders issued by the Israeli authorities against Palestinian homes and structures. Regavim’s work is concentrated in the occupied Negev and expands to include all Palestinian territories, particularly Area C, which constitutes 60% of the occupied West Bank. The organization has free access to geographic and demographic information about the area with a license from the Civil Administration. It uses geographic information systems and conducts detailed aerial photography, even while Israel is occupying the Palestinian territories.

Regavim has an eight-member board of directors, some of whom are considered leaders of the settlement enterprise, some of whom led the “rebellion against the army” campaigns during the evacuation of settlements from the Gaza Strip. In addition, it employs 33 permanent employees and has an annual budget of approximately 6 million shekels.
