B’Tselem Executive Director: Nearly 10,000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons and subjected to ill-treatment

In an interview with CNN, Yuli Novak, executive director of B’Tselem, commented on the Israeli Knesset’s law authorizing the death penalty for prisoners:

Since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 72,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and at least 1,050 in the West Bank. During this period, 80 Palestinian prisoners died in Israeli custody in detention centers that have effectively become a network of torture camps.

The new law institutionalizes the execution of Palestinians and adds another official tool of killing to the existing systematic practices of repression and the use of lethal force.
