Throughout the wars on Gaza and Lebanon over the past two years, the Israeli army has refrained from prosecuting its soldiers against whom there is evidence of looting Palestinian and Lebanese property.<\/p>\n

Despite the massive and horrific destruction inflicted by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip during the war, the military police opened only six criminal investigations against soldiers suspected of looting or destroying property in 2024, but none of these investigations resulted in indictments.<\/p>\n

The Haaretz<\/a> newspaper reported that the Israeli army describes these six investigations as “the tip of the iceberg,” claiming that such crimes were widespread. This comes after soldiers documented themselves destroying property and engaging in looting, and then posted the footage on social media.<\/p>\n

The newspaper quoted an Israeli army source as saying that there is a “conspiracy of silence” within the military units regarding the looting incidents, and that Gaza residents are unable to file complaints.<\/p>\n

The military prosecution also investigated other cases in which soldiers burned copies of the Quran in a mosque in Gaza and destroyed medical equipment. The newspaper emphasized that although the soldiers documented these crimes, no disciplinary action was taken against them.<\/p>\n
