Arbitrarily and Inhumanly, More Than 600 Palestinians Faced House Arrest During 2022

Israeli Authority forces resort to house arrest against children and youths of the occupied Jerusalem

This practice emerged clearly after the kidnapping of the child Mohammed Abu Khdair who was killed in June 2014, but it has been expanded further since October 2015.

Childhood violation

During this period, the child is forced not to leave his house at all, while a tracking device (electronic bracelet) is placed for him. After months of house arrest, the child is rarely allowed to go to school or clinic accompanied by his guarantor, back and forth.

Official statistics report that more than 600 cases of house arrest occurred during the year 2022, divided into two types: the first: child remains in his home and among his family members throughout the specified period stipulated by the court’s decision until his case is decided.

The second: It is the most difficult and complicated, where the child is deported from his family’s house, and the deportation may be outside the city, which applies to the situation of 4 Jerusalem children under the age of 18. The occupation forced two of them to remain in house arrest in the city of Ramla, and two others in other cities, this of course disperses their families and costs them more financial burdens.

House arrest leaves children and their families with difficult psychological, whereas families are forced to monitor their children permanently and prevent them from leaving the houses. House arrest also results in depriving children of their right to education, and a constant feeling of anxiety, fear and deprivation, and this of course causes a state of psychological instability and sometimes bedwetting, and excessive nervousness.

Prison is Better Than House Arrest

The child Ayham Hijazi 15 -year-old from the old city of the occupied Jerusalem, was arrested on 19-08.2022 after Police stormed his house, then they led him to the prison of “Maskobia” and sent him into investigation for long hours while being handcuffed. Investigators assaulted and beat him. After the investigation, he was send into prison, and after a week he was subjected to the court and then decided to transfer him into house attest. But after 3 months, he decided to return to prison because of the difficulty of house arrest and because of the court’s decision to extend his period of house arrest again.

Arbitrary and immortal Procedures

There is a need for human rights and humanitarian institutions to stand by the Palestinian child, who is being subjected to arbitrary and immoral measures that undermine his minimum life rights stipulated in the Conventions of the Rights of Child, and aim to destroy his present and future.
