The number of administrative prisoners in Israeli prisons is the highest in 34 years

Palestinian human rights institutions reported that the number of administrative prisoners in the occupation prisons has recently increased significantly, reaching about (1,200) prisoners, which is the highest rate in 34 years.

The occupation authorities have greatly escalated the issuance of administrative orders against prisoners during the last two years, as during the past year they issued (2400) orders, while since the beginning of this year they issued more than (1230) orders, which raised the number of administrative prisoners in an unprecedented way in years since The first intifada.

The number of administrative prisoners reached the highest since 1989, when the number of administrative prisoners at that time reached more than (1700) administrative prisoners, while during the years of the Al-Aqsa Intifada it reached its maximum in April 2003 and the number of administrative prisoners at that time reached (1140) prisoners.

More than 75% of the administrative prisoners languishing in the occupation prisons have had their administrative detention renewed for other detention periods, ranging from two to six months.

Among the administrative prisoners are 3 female prisoners, 14 minors, in addition to prisoners suffering from cancer, and a number of elderly people over 60 years of age.

Administrative detention is considered an arbitrary policy aimed at detaining Palestinians without a legal basis, based on secret charges that no one is allowed to see. The Israeli intelligence dictates instructions to the mock courts to issue new administrative orders or renew for other periods.
