Benjamin Netanyahu said, following the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by settlers led by extremist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, that he had “transcended the status quo,” and claimed that Israel’s policy on the Al-Aqsa Mosque “has not changed.”
However, Israeli Minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf, from Ben-Gvir’s party, who participated in the storming, confirmed in an interview with Radio 103FM that he had informed Netanyahu that he intended to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Wasserlauf added that he had coordinated his storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque with all the parties that should be coordinated with, “and two weeks ago I went to the prime minister, where I sent him a message and asked to go up (to the mosque). By the way, I have done that since I entered the government.”
It turned out that Netanyahu did not prevent Wasserlauf, nor Ben-Gvir, from storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Wasserlauf said that “Netanyahu received the message and everything was fine and coordinated with the security of the dignitaries.”
Regarding Netanyahu’s comment on Ben Gvir’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Wasserlauf said, “I don’t know, ask him.”
